December 18, 2003 Durham Durham don't know if this city is just really small or am I at the tip of it or something, but I am driving around looking for some eats and there isn't the usual restaurants that you find in every single city on every other corner, which is actually cool. No outback steakhouses, chilis, fuddruckers, but they do have other places that are hard to gauge. Honey's; could be a strip club, but it is really an old timey diner where the patrons and the customers know all about everyone and I brought the median age down four years (and I'm middle aged) and the medien weight down 32 pounds. This "cafe" I went to had no coffee brewed, what I assumed was a Mexican Restaraunt named "Valencia's" was something else that wasn't close to a restaurant, but not a strip club either, there were pillows on the floor, people sitting around on chairs, no food to be seen and "Walk ins welcome" sign. so as I drove around and around I had the sensation of riding my bike at walnut creek, I would come upon the same restaurants from a different direction, the same roads and thinking I am going away from my hotel, it appears on the horizon. maybe it is the whole "loop" thing that goes around the city, its a big figure 8 that turns around on itself causeing excessive recursion. i'm getting dizzy just writing this, maybe i need to go to "Valencias" and sit on a cushion. -Geezo December 11, 2003 Technology turns against us Not quite skynet, yet, but the machines that are supposed to make our lives so simple and easy just crap out or decide not to work anymore. Suzie's palm pilot (4 years old) with 4 years of addresses, decides to reset itself and clear out all the data. Backed up? yes, on the 20 gig hard drive that we removed from the mac b/c it locked up. I had the data on my '96 compaq which has windows '98, but had to re-install the hot sync manager b/c my gps won't work on com port 1 if hot sync is installed. I did just that and the hot sync worked! My work laptop, which accesses a wireless network and has cd burning capabilities will not work with my palm pilot or recognize a smart card to download digital photos. Yes, I could figure it out, but I will just use the Mac for the photos and the Compac machine for my Palm. Read any good e-books lately? PLJ December 7, 2003 Impaled! Riding amok in the woods solo. David B.'s old age is catching up to him, as 7 a.m. was too early to meet. I came upon some very non-technical section of the trail and opted not to take the rougher, rock strewn line I usually go for and head down the tamer "roots" line. I was going much to slow and here it comes a one way trip over the bars. C'est la vie, it happens all the time I pop on my feet, but my leg felt really banged. I look down and see a gaping 1/4 inch diameter hole in my calf and about 1/2 inch deep. It then decided to bleed and bleed it did. I sat down to drink some water as I felt a little peaked from the sight and the pain, oh my god, it fucking hurt. (I know I have a toddler now and I shouldn't speak this way, but this is on the damn internet and, shoot, it is quite appropriate). So I could weight my heel, but weighting my toe was a no-go. I did the one leg pedal on the flats and was about a mile from the parking lot. I got there in good time and loaded my bike into the car. Only a sip of coffee was left and I gave Suz a call to let her know I got impaled and that I would probably go to the doctor (I never go to the doctor). She didn't think much of it until she saw the gore!
Although I writhed in pain in the waiting room, when I saw the doctor, I was glad. It turns out that my doctor has ridden CP and is aware of the potential for going OTB. He commended me for cleaning my wound so well, and then I nearly passed out when he proceeded to flush it out. (My heart rate dropped to 40 bpm) He threw in 3 stitches in the muscle and 5 in the skin. I am gimping for a good little while, did not do the dirty du, and not training for the Houston marathon presently. I ended up being support for the dirty du and rock climbing at reimer's I may have been bored had I not been hanging with Retta. PLJ December 5, 2003 Online orders I spent $50 at vs.com today and the shipping for a handful of teeny tiny panties was almost $9. I thought about it for a moment before I clicked "place my order" b/c I hate to throw away $9. But if you've ever been in the VS store itself you really know it's worth it to order online. Pushy salesgirls telling you that a small is basically the same as an x-small just b/c they happen to be totally out of x-s panties and b/c those girls couldn't even dream of fitting into a medium. They're sizes run huge, in case you're wondering. December 4, 2003 Going under For some reason this blog page can't stay updated. Is it going under? Talk to the man. He's always got a rant or a rave, but lately won't take the 2 seconds required to pen them. Christina's blog And what about xina's blog? We love reading her entries and she's hardly updating anymore either. She has some really funny accounts about people she's met at thebusstop on there. i think someone should send the link to CapMetro so they know whay people really aren't riding the bus. Don't know how she does it. December 3, 2003 FSM David's surprise party at Fonda San Miguel was great. The babies were real troopers. DB was actually surprised. And he almost wrecked it by wanting to go see some slide show. Boys. Anyhow, much better than the surprise party I tried to give Paul. The one where we almost broke up for good. And Jan spent the night. I hate that night. I hate thinking about it. But everytime I hear "surprise party" ... More blogs: 08/03 | 09/03 | 10/03 | 11/03 | 12/03
